In general, the view from Canada over the falls is said to be more picturesque and more built up, while the US side of the falls feels more like a park (and is, in fact, a state park). When I travelled along the US-Canada border as a young adult on a post-college road trip, I remember being amazed at the thundering natural wonder that connected the two countries. Canada is home to some of the world’s most stunning natural sights—and Niagara Falls is one of them. In addition to experiencing Canada’s view of the falls, the Ontario city is home to a selection of the top-rated hotels in Niagara Falls. From renowned hotel brands to historic inns, here’s my pick of the best hotels in Niagara Falls, Canada.

The Niagara Grandview Boutique Hotel easily ranks among the best hotels in Niagara Falls. For one, it's in a great location on the Niagara River, just a six-minute drive or 30-minute walk from the falls. It also has elegant decor and top-notch amenities.

I adore the fact that this is a boutique hotel with just 17 guestrooms. I loved browsing through the room options, as each has its own perks (I think the King Turret Room, which is housed in an actual turret, is my favourite).

The Grandview is rich in sophistication and charm, with its own library, garden, and patio. Amenities like free Wi-Fi and private balconies or patios make this one of the best luxury hotels in Niagara Falls.

When it comes to location, no other property can come close to the Niagara Falls Marriott Fallsview Hotel & Spa, which is directly across from the iconic Horseshoe Falls. The hotel is considered to be the closest to the falls, a simple fact that makes it one of the top stays in Niagara Falls.

I love that when you stay at the Marriott Fallsview, the falls are always top of mind—mainly because they’re less than 100 metres away and can be seen from several of the property’s common areas and guestrooms. I highly recommend requesting a room with a view of the falls.

Beyond its incomparable views, the hotel has an on-site spa, an indoor heated pool, and a skyway that connects the hotel and the neighbouring Fallsview Casino Resort.

The Sterling Inn & Spa is in the centre of the city of Niagara Falls, making it a great choice for travellers who like to be able to walk to coffee shops and grocery stores. The Niagara River is just a few blocks to the east, while the falls are a short walk (25 minutes) or drive (five minutes) away.

One of the things that make the Sterling one of the best hotels in Niagara Falls is its boutique feel, paired with a stellar full-service spa and a fine dining eatery. I highly recommend booking a spa treatment and a meal at AG Inspired Cuisine restaurant, which is billed as “a true farm-to-table experience”.

It’s worth noting that Sterling Inn & Spa is known for welcoming honeymooners and couples on romantic getaways, so it may not be the best choice for families.

I’m a sucker for a good bed and breakfast, and the Redwood is one of the city’s finest. Part of what drew me to this property is that it's set in a historic home that dates back to the 1900's. The old-world charm of the B&B is showcased in features like the home’s original dark-wood staircase.

The entire property overlooks the gorge and river and is just over five minutes by car or 30 minutes on foot from the falls themselves, making this one of the best hotels in Niagara Falls for location.

Guestrooms at the Redwood all have a private balcony, en-suite bathroom, and air conditioning. A hot gourmet breakfast served by the friendly hosts, Lin and Jin, make this B&B one of the top boutique hotels in Niagara Falls.

The DoubleTree Fallsview Resort & Spa by Hilton is one of the few 4-star hotels on this list, a distinction that helps make it one of the best hotels in Niagara Falls. But there’s more to this hotel than a good ranking.

The property is situated between the city centre and the falls themselves, providing the best of both worlds when it comes to location. It’s a 10-minute walk to the falls (and certain rooms have falls or river views), and a short walk to some of Niagara Falls’ best independent eateries. I suggest visiting Red Ganache in the morning for fresh croissants.

The DoubleTree’s amenities include a cedar sauna, two indoor saltwater pools, a hot tub, and an AVEDA spa. There’s also an on-site restaurant, a bar, and free Wi-Fi throughout the property.

Just up the river from the Rosewood Bed and Breakfast is the Chestnut Inn, a quaint, 3-star property in Niagara Falls’ historical district. My favourite thing about this inn is its spacious deck with seating, surrounded by gardens and a gazebo. You can’t help but fall in love with the building’s all-white exterior or the lush gardens.

Inside you’ll find just six rooms, each with its own patio or balcony. They’re all heated in the winter and air-conditioned in the summer, with Wi-Fi throughout.

The Chestnut Inn is located on the quieter side of Niagara Falls and is a six-minute drive from the falls themselves. However, it ranks among the top hotels in Niagara Falls for its quiet, natural surroundings, hearty breakfast, and quality customer service.

If you’re travelling with kids, as I often am, your best bet is to head to the Great Wolf Lodge. The lodge and resort is well-known for its indoor water park, which is kept at a balmy 29 degrees year-round.

Access to the expansive water park is included in each stay, as are life jackets and towels. This is one of the best hotels in Niagara Falls for families, as it caters brilliantly to kids while still offering easy access to the city’s main draw: the falls themselves. The lodge is just over 10 minutes by car from Horseshoe Falls.

However, before you head to the main attraction, I highly recommend checking out the Niagara Whirlpool, which can be viewed from the Whirlpool Aero Car that departs right across the street from the lodge.

As its name implies, the Serene Niagara Inn has a quiet, residential feel. It’s located right along the Niagara River, and while it’s just five minutes by car to the waterfall (30 minutes on foot), it feels a whole world away from Niagara Falls’ more touristy areas.

The tranquil vibe of the inn is complemented by a range of perks and amenities that are hard to find in the area—these include free parking and a free daily breakfast.

As someone who loves authentic places and cozy inns, I love the fact that the Serene Niagara Inn is located in a home built in 1908. There are just four guestrooms, each with a private bathroom, TV, and fridge.

This little B&B is one of the best hotels in Niagara Falls because, despite being located in the heart of the tourist area, it still manages to retain a low-key, authentic feel.

There’s just a small selection of rooms to choose from in this truly “cozy” bed and breakfast. (I highly recommend securing your room early.) All guests have access to a sunny, summer terrace and each room has Wi-Fi, a TV, complimentary tea and coffee, and a writing table.

One of my favourite things about this property is the fact that it's centrally located and has free parking. That means you can park your car and forget about it, exploring the area on foot or by shuttle instead.

The Four Points by Sheraton is technically located in the neighbouring town of Thorold, Ontario, which is 25 minutes by car from the falls. However, I included it on my list of the best hotels in Niagara Falls because it’s a great choice for travellers who are looking to book a spacious suite but don’t want to pay premium Niagara Falls prices.

What’s more, I love its less touristy feel, as it’s a bit out of town. It’s located just steps from Brock University and has a restaurant and indoor pool. Parking is free and pets are welcome for an additional fee.

The easy drive to Thorold is a welcome way to unwind after a day at the roaring falls and the busy attractions that surround it.
