Overview
The Banff Hotels Sunshine Mountain Lodge is a mountain-top boutique hotel nestled in Banff National Park. The hotel is 77 miles away from Calgary International Airport and only 20 minutes away from Banff city center. The Banff Upper Hot Springs are a popular visitor destination only 25 minutes away by car. The hotel features 84 non-smoking rooms in Canada’s oldest national park.
There are numerous rooms to choose from at the hotel from loft rooms to premiere rooms and lodge suites. Deluxe waterfall rooms are available that offer granite countertops and slate floors and a magnificent view of the waterfall run form the windows. There are many activities to take part in at Sunshine Mountain Lodge. Banff’s largest outdoor hot pool offers relaxation while guests can take part in tobogganing in the hills on certain evenings. Guests can also take advantage of an equipment locker for extra sporting goods and gear.
Numerous dining options are available at the hotel including the Eagle’s Nest Canadian Bistro with dishes like fresh-shucked oysters, vegan gnocchi, and bison short ribs. Location, location, location. If you plan on activities around the Banff area, I would recommend staying elsewhere. 15-20 minute drive to Banff PLUS, at best, a 20 minute gondola ride. The novelty wore off after day 1. Gondola stops at 1800 everyday. If you arrive after, you may be waiting the better part of an hour for the next shuttle, if there's room. Cons (-) The restaurant selection was limited. The meal preparation was poor instant mashed potatoes. Overall the food tasted bad. My husband got sick from beef ribs.
