That’s where you’ll find the Alpine town of Jasper. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and crystalline glacier lakes that shine emerald green all year round, the scenery here can take your breath away. But with great beauty comes great crowds, especially in peak summer or winter seasons. Those looking to avoid the hordes of fellow travellers should make a beeline for the northern end of the Icefields Parkway. As a Canadian who visits Jasper often, I must admit this is an unforgettable place. Most of the best hotels in Jasper are found in the bustling heart of town, especially on the main drag, Connaught Drive. If you’re looking for something more remote, you’ll also find terrific hotels within a short drive at Pyramid Lake and near the Athabasca River. Here’s my pick of the best places to stay in Jasper.

Escape Jasper’s peak season crowds at this lovely lodge in the woods. Located outside of the busy town core, each cabin has a wood fireplace and fresh logs provided daily. I loved warming up with a cup of (complimentary) hot chocolate in front of the fire after a day of exploring.

Known for being one of the best hotels in Jasper, I also love that Tekarra Lodge offers a program of daily activities for guests, from free s’mores around the campfire to yoga sessions and talks that explore the local wildlife.

Be sure to eat at Tekarra’s smart on-site restaurant – the wild boar bruschetta and AAA Alberta beef steak are out of this world. Make time for a hike in nearby Old Ford Point, where Jasper Food Tours offers guided hikes that end with a delicious Indian meal atop the hill.

Located a short drive up the hill from town, Pyramid Lake is a must-visit for anyone coming to Jasper. On a recent trail run around the lodge, I had to keep stopping to take photos of the spectacular views, including the highly Instagrammable Pyramid Lake Island bridge.

I also had to stop when I encountered a mama black bear and her cub on the trail. Fortunately, the bear and I safely went our separate ways, but it was a good reminder to have bear spray handy when exploring the Jasper area.

At Pyramid Lake Lodge itself, you’ll find freshly renovated rooms and a dock just steps from your door, where you can go canoeing or kayaking. This top-rated hotel in Jasper is also home to Aalto, one of the finest restaurants in town. Don’t leave without trying the crispy sablefish washed down with Sea Change Brewery’s Prairie Fairy blueberry wheat ale./

Located right on Connaught Drive, The Crimson is one of the best hotels in Jasper. As soon as I arrived, I felt right at home, thanks to the extraordinarily welcoming staff who told me I could rely on them for anything.

All of the rooms here offer wonderful views of the mountains across the road and you don’t have to go far to take a dip, thanks to the hotel’s swimming pool and hot tub.

The Crimson is situated in a prime spot, just a few blocks from Jasper’s best restaurants and bars, making this one of the best hotels in Jasper for location. That said, you don’t need to leave the hotel for a meal, as The Crimson’s restaurant, Terra, is one of the best in town. It serves decadent brunches and dinners – do yourself a favour and order the bison osso bucco.

If you love a charming family-run hotel, Mount Robson Inn is the spot for you. One of the best hotels in Jasper, this historic hotel has faultlessly friendly service, with the owners, who inherited the business, often popping in to say hi.

The vibe and decor here feel like a vintage motel, with the addition of a few quirky details – I love the stained-glass window featuring horned sheep above the reception. I also love taking a dip in the two hot tubs out front, which offer privacy thanks to a thick fence.

Breakfast is included with every stay, and features a full hot and cold buffet with eggs, sausage, and other hot dishes, so you won’t go hungry. Mount Robson Inn also boasts a super convenient location, just on the western edge of town across from the train tracks.

Grab the copper flower handle and walk through the grand wood door to this historic property, which is one of the best hotels in Jasper. It’s the second oldest hotel in town, and the building has a cosy, rustic feel to it. Yet despite its heritage, the hotel is renovated frequently.

All of the 64 rooms and nine uniquely styled suites are excellent, but for me, the highlight is the hotel’s two outdoor rooftop hot tubs – the only hotel in Jasper to have them. Up there, you can enjoy spectacular views of Jasper’s Whistler Mountain (hence the hotel’s name).

While Whistler’s Inn is located in the heart of Jasper, you don’t even need to venture into town for a meal or a drink. The ground floor is home to Cassios Italian Restaurant, as well as the beloved Whistle Stop Pub.

Perfectly located minutes from the entrance to Jasper National Park as well as the town and along the Icefields Parkway, Jasper House Bungalows is one of the best hotels to stay in Jasper. Each of the 56 cabins is superbly decorated with a terrific mix of wood and tile that gives a modern yet rustic feel.

A private beach on the Athabasca River is a huge personal bonus, as is the on-site restaurant that provides comfort food from around the world. Ranging from poke bowls to bison burgers and Tinga chipotle chicken tacos, you won’t go hungry.

If you want to see majestic mammals, this is the place to stay. Moose, elk and, yes, bears are frequently seen roaming through the grounds, so be sure to keep an eye out of your window just in case.

Located outside of town within a five-minute walk of the Athabasca River, at Pine Bungalows you’ll be immersed in the wilderness – with the addition of modern comforts. Individual log cabins have a cosy, vintage vibe, and all include comfortable beds, full kitchens, and bathrooms with heated floors. There are also freshly-constructed chalets as well as hotel rooms in the lodge.

Originally opened in 1936, Pine Bungalows is designed to help guests feel as unplugged as they did back in the day. That means the cabins don’t have Wi-Fi, TVs, or landline phones, though you should get cell service for emergencies. That makes Pine Bungalows one of the best hotels in Jasper to be offline.

That said, you won’t feel like you’re off-grid while eating at the resort’s Kumama Restaurant, which serves elevated Japanese-inspired cuisine like Wagyu beef meatballs and pork belly with yuzu along with quality cocktails.

Designed like a Swiss motel with wood and stucco outside, this is one of the best hotels in Jasper for business travellers. It boasts a well-appointed conference room as well as a hall for functions like weddings. It’s also a great option for families, as it has an indoor heated pool – a rarity in Jasper. Another unique aspect is the fact that it’s open year-round.

Quite large by Jasper standards, this hotel has 145 rooms and most are very reasonably priced. If you go for a suite, you’ll find a full kitchen, a wood fireplace, and a private hot tub. If you’re staying in a regular room, there’s a shared hot tub available to all guests. I particularly like the hotel’s location, as it’s set a few blocks back from the main drag in a residential part of town, meaning it’s delightfully quiet.

Also located in a peaceful residential part of town, Bear Hill Lodge is one of the best boutique hotels in Jasper. It has 45 rooms split between a cluster of duplexes and multi-room complexes. Originally opened in 1985, the hotel has received several recent renovations, including a selection of two-story private lodges built in 2024.

The rooms might be my favourite in all of Jasper, as the stained wood and modern furniture deliver the perfect combination of luxury and cottage-core. The best part: the huge bathrooms with rain showers. I’d recommend requesting a room with a wood-burning fireplace (not all of them have them) and it’s worth bearing in mind there’s no on-site restaurant.

Don’t worry though, if you’re looking for a meal the hotel is located near some top Jasper restaurants and cafes, including Terra and Bear’s Paw Bakery.

Jasper East Cabins is one of the best hotels in Jasper to fully immerse yourself in the mountains. Located 40 minutes from town, on the way to Edmonton, its cabins provide serious privacy amidst the peaceful mountain scenery.

Despite being immersed in nature, the lodges are connected to Wi-Fi and decorated with exposed wood and red roofs that hark back to the pioneer days. Each cabin features everything you need for a relaxing stay, including a river stone gas fireplace, kitchenette, and queen-sized beds.

Don’t miss the on-site restaurant and brewery, Folding Mountain Taproom and Kitchen, which does awesome burgers, sandwiches and beer flights. Meanwhile, nearby you’ll find one of the best hikes in the Jasper area, the Sulphur Skyline Trail.
