Cannon Beach hotels

One of the best hotels in Cannon Beach, Stephanie Inn combines the finest of everything Cannon Beach has to offer. As an oceanfront property with sun-soaked rooms facing the sea stacks, Stephanie Inn wouldn’t have to offer much else to draw crowds – but it does.

All the rooms are outfitted with gas fireplaces and deep soaking tubs (some with water views), along with binoculars for bird watching and lanterns for night-time walks. I strongly recommend reserving an ocean-view room here and enjoying a sunset sip on your private balcony (bonus points if you wear the super soft bathrobe while indulging in this little luxury).

Make a reservation at the Stephanie Inn Dining Room for a memorable meal of local meats and seafood accompanied by seasonal sides served in a nightly four-course dinner. Just note that guests must be at least 12 years old to stay.

As its name would suggest, The Ocean Lodge is situated directly on the beach. It offers uninterrupted views of Haystack Rock, and many reservations offer ocean views from the personal decks and balconies provided with every room.

Dogs aren’t allowed at all of the luxury hotels along this beach, but they’re welcome here, making this one of the best hotels in Cannon Beach for those looking to bring the whole family. That includes children too, of course, and there are games, movies and other amenities available to entertain younger guests.

I love the large windows at The Ocean Lodge, especially in the rooms facing the water, and the neutral décor keeps the focus on the nature outside. Morning breakfast is free, and there’s a complimentary evening wine reception daily – feel free to mingle with other guests or quietly enjoy a glass with a view.

Surfsand Resort is a family-friendly hotel directly on the ocean, and it’s one of the best hotels in Cannon Beach for taking full advantage of all the beach.

In addition to its proximity to Haystack Rock and the beach’s captivating tide pools, Surfsand Resort offers a nightly beachfront bonfire complete with my favourite small amenity at the property, s’mores kits for all ages. Pro tip: You can book a private bonfire for a fee.

If you don’t feel like venturing out, there are gas fireplaces and plush robes in most rooms too. The resort also offers cruiser bike rentals daily from 8:00 am through dusk. For yet more beach immersion, several of the resort’s fitness programs are held by the ocean, including seasonal beach yoga. When the water’s too cold (this is Oregon, after all), there’s a heated indoor pool and sauna at the hotel.

If you love beachfront living but prefer a more modern interior over coastal lodge design, Hallmark Resort & Spa is for you. With plenty of ocean-view accommodations overlooking the beach’s signature stacks, rooms here are lighter on the wood tones and bigger on the bright neutrals, emphasizing the light and airy ambiance.

Many rooms include kitchens and fireplaces, but my favourite feature is the two-person jetted soaker tub with uninterrupted coastal views found in some spa category rooms.

Speaking of spas, Elements by the Sea Spa offers a wide range of treatments, and there are two indoor saltwater pools here too. Freshly baked cookies are served every afternoon, and next-door Pelican Brewing serves craft beers and quality pub food with enchanting views.

Not all of the best hotels in Cannon Beach are on the ocean itself. Inn at Cannon Beach is just a block from the south end of the beach, providing easy access in a relaxed garden setting. Here you’ll find more lawns and gardens, vine-draped pergola walks and a landscaped pond, but always within a quick walk of the water.

Inside, rooms are very much like those along the shore, with similar furnishings, balconies, gas fireplaces and the freshly baked cookies that are so beloved among Cannon Beach hotels.

I appreciated the cozy blankets provided for chilly nights by the fire pits and bonfires, and the Inn’s hot cocoa on even chillier nights. If you’re interested in yoga or fitness classes, ask about the hotel’s complimentary access to Cannon Beach Fitness and daily passes to Cannon Beach Yoga Arts classes.

Though about 97 km south of Cannon Beach in Pacific City (a 90-minute drive), Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa is one of the top luxury hotels in the Cannon Beach area. It’s well worth your consideration for ultimate indulgence in a very similar setting.

Pacific City even has its own Haystack Rock, and it’s considerably taller. If you have the time, I recommend spending a couple of nights in each spot to experience similar charms with a change of scenery. Rooms at Headlands Coastal Lodge are generously sized and include lodge accommodations and condo-style cottages for families and small groups.

But Tidepools Spa and Wellness is the star here. With signature therapies inspired by the ocean, treatments often include therapeutic botanical blends that draw on coastal Oregon’s natural bounty. I also love relaxing in the outdoor hot tub at Tidepools before enjoying the fire pit lounge area.

Not quite in town but under 10 minutes away by car in Arch Cape, Arch Cape Inn & Retreat is one of the best hotels in Cannon Beach for a romantic getaway. From the wooden castle-like architecture to the European-inspired interiors, you’ll feel like you’re leaving your real life behind when you check in here.

For maximum romance, reserve the Tower (Room 6). Set at the top of the inn, it’s outfitted with Louis XIV furniture, a fireplace, a large soaking tub and a turret with gorgeous ocean views. By travelling just a few minutes south, I appreciate that this Cannon Beach area property boasts a far more secluded beach untouched by most tourists. Visit the stacks whenever the whim strikes, then return to your nearly private enclave.

Around 30–45 minutes north of town by car, depending on traffic, Cannery Pier Hotel & Spa is one of the best hotels in Cannon Beach for a unique water experience. Since it’s not in Cannon Beach but calls nearby Astoria home, you’ll be able to experience both river life and coastal living.

This luxury boutique gem extends 183 metres into the Columbia River, and I love being able to look directly down into the water from the private balcony of any room here. It’s also directly adjacent to the beautiful Astoria-Megler Bridge, offering inspiring views of the soaring structure from each room.

Grab a massage at the on-site spa during the day, and don’t forget to use your generous daily credit at Bar 600 for sunset sips in the evening or nightcaps after dinner.

Sea Sprite at Haystack Rock is a charming boutique hotel with a handful of rooms and suites and two cozy cottages. With direct beach access and unobstructed ocean views, Sea Sprite is one of the best hotels in Cannon Beach for an intimate waterfront stay.

All of the rooms, suites and cottages include a full kitchen, and the beachside lawn is furnished with colourful chairs facing toward the famed Haystack Rock.

There’s picnic table seating out here too, and I enjoy picking up fresh, local ingredients in town to prepare an easy al fresco meal overlooking the waves. Leave your shoes inside and relax with your toes on the soft grass before heading a few metres over for a walk along the sandy shore.

Just 15 minutes north of town in Seaside, SaltLine Hotel is one of the best hotels in the Cannon Beach area for a fresh stay in this coastal region. With a markedly modern exterior and mid-century modern interiors throughout, this isn’t the place to embrace your inner coastal grandma.

I often recommend SaltLine to younger visitors looking to experience the Oregon coast with more of a contemporary vibe than relatively traditional Cannon Beach – but still with easy access to the charming town and notable scenery.

The property and the resort town of Seaside offer a slightly more energized take on the region, without sacrificing the authentic feel and laid-back lifestyle this coast is known for. Because I often travel with my pup, I’m especially partial to the thoughtful dog amenities provided, which truly loves its furry guests.
